Top 10 Signs You’re a Fundamentalist Christian

10 – You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 – You feel insulted and “dehumanized” when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 – You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

7 – Your face turns purple when you hear of the “atrocities” attributed to Allah, but you don’t even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in “Exodus” and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in “Joshua” including women, children, and trees!

6 – You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 – You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 – You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs — though excluding those in all rival sects – will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most “tolerant” and “loving.”

3 – While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in “tongues” may be all the evidence you need to “prove” Christianity.

2 – You define 0.01% as a “high success rate” when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 – You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history – but still call yourself a Christian.

  1. First, it may help you to know that I teach a course in Christian History which includes:

    Civilizations of The World
    1. Pre-to-post Judaism (Paganism – duo/poly/pan-theism, “Pseudo Genesis Account”)
    a. Sumerians
    b. Akkadians
    c. Empire of Ur III
    d. Old Babylonian Empire
    e. Assyrian Empire
    f. Neo-Babylon Empire
    g. Mesopotamia under the Persians & Greeks
    h. Mesopotamia under the Arabs
    i. Iraq under the Mongols
    j. Iraq under the Turkmen tribes
    k. Iraq under the Safavids of Iran
    l. Iraq under the Ottoman Empire
    m. Iraq under the British control
    n. The Modern State of Iraq

Believe me this is ONLY a small portion!

Having said all of that let me state emphatically that intellectuality will NOT prevent violence, galvanize societies, nor insure eternal happiness, etc.

Secondly, science estimates that the natural universe is only 14 billion years old. It would appear then the phenomenom of Nature is the product of the Phenomenom of the Supernatural! How do you postulate on the reality of eternity?

Thirdly, faith enables us to envision the unknown before it’s known. Did you know that it took thousands of years for science to accept the reality of atoms? There was a time when belief in atoms was “illogical”. So, even in the world of science FAITH IS AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY!

Fourthly, inspiration, which is the result of our faith, gives us insight that supercedes our education, experiences, and possibly our expectations. Inspiration acts as a bridge between yesterday and tomorrow, and is the basis for revelation. Beyond that, inspiration tells us how to attain our desires. Our will tells what our desires are, and, depending on our moral development, they may be selfless or selfish. Our “world” is the result of our will, faith, and inspiration!

Fifth point, what is this all leading to? “Our Lord and God, you are worthy to receive glory, honor, and power. You created all things, and by your decision(will) they are and were created (Rev. 4:11 Contemporary English Version).” The “creation” we perform in our individual “worlds” is a microcosm of the Creation itself!

Sixth point, I’m sure you’ve heard that we are created in His image (Gen. 1:27). No doubt you are aware that “all of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Rom. 3:23 CEV).” However, I pray you realize that the Supernatural Existence before Nature is inhabited by a Spirit (Jhn. 4:24) who wants us to be “loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled. There is no law against behaving in any of these ways (Gal. 5:22-23).”

Finally, I pray that we don’t act in the manner described in verses 19-21, and that proponents on both sides of issue of faith realize that we are to love unconditionally the Cause (God) and the vessels (Man) of life. I propose an end to the unconstructive banner waving so that a deeper revelation of Truth can emerge!

    God bless or
    Have a nice day!
