Casino Royale ****
First off, everything you’ve heard about Daniel Craig being the best new Bond in a long, long time, well that’s exactly right. In my opinion, he will be the BEST Bond this series has ever had. I first noticed Craig in the very cool British film called Layer Cake. He was very good and the film is excellent. Check it out if you’ve never seen it before. This latest Bond flick has enough cool gadgets, twists & turns, and lovely ladies to satisfy any fan of this storied film franchise.
So, rather than me try and recap the latest Bond film, below is a brief synopsis. I’ve also included a synopsis of Layer cake. Don’t miss either of these films on DVD. You won’t be disappointed, I loved them.
Layer Cake: Matthew Vaughn directs this intricate drama, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, about a British drug dealer (Daniel Craig) who longs to ditch his illegal trade. But he can’t do that without wrapping up just one more job involving a gargantuan stash of purloined ecstasy. The cache’s original owners are after him as well, leaving him with no other choice but to run for his life while trying to make this one final deal a big success.
Casino Royale: Martin Campbell (GoldenEye) directs this film adaptation (the 21st of the Bond franchise) of Ian Fleming’s first novel. Daniel Craig (Layer Cake) debuts as the new Bond, who takes on a corrupt casino owner with ties to terrorists. You’ll learn Bond’s back story as the action-packed film takes you to the Bahamas, Madagascar and other exotic locales. Eva Green and Jeffrey Wright join the cast, and the sublime Judi Dench reprises her role as M.
