Congress threatens Pakistan over jet delivery
I saw this article regarding Congress’s plan to stop delivery of jet fighter planes to Pakistan unless they intensify their campaign against terrorists using the border regions to launch attaches against U.S. forces in Afghanistan. It made me remember a speech President Bush made after 9-11. It took me a while to find the statement but here it is from his speech to Congress on Sep. 20, 2001.
“And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation in every region now has a decision to make: Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists.
From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime. Our nation has been put on notice, we’re not immune from attack. We will take defensive measures against terrorism to protect Americans.”
We know this problem in the border regions of Pakistan have been going on for a longtime now. The lack of action to hold Pakistan accountable has probably contributed to the loss of life for some U.S. soldiers and has allowed the Taliban to grow in numbers and most likely is the safe haven area of Al Qaeda’s leaders.
My question is why is this still going on? Thankfully we now have fresh new leadership in Congress that’s paying more attention to these matters. Finally, there appears to be more accountability.
