Babel was a best picture Oscar nominee and it was well deserved.
Here’s a brief synopsis:
When an American couple (Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett) vacationing in Morocco fall victim to a random act of violence, a series of events unfolds across four countries that demonstrates both the necessity and impossibility of human communication. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu artfully weaves together three seemingly disparate stories of strangers in strange lands in this Oscar nominee for Best Picture and Golden Globe winner for Best Drama.
While I thought this was very good movie, I still think The Departed was better. Babel’s weaves 3 stories that are all related even though they happen in three different locations on the globe. The issue I have with this movie is, I’ve already seen stories like this before. Last year’s Oscar winner, Crash, also had several story lines that connected together in someway. I loved Crash, I just think Babel was a little too familiar.
Babel is definitely worth watching and well deserving of it’s Oscar nomination. It’s almost as good as Little Miss Sunshine which I give a slight edge over Babel. You can’t go wrong with either of these movies so go out and rent them if you haven’t seen them already. You won’t be disappointed.
