Thought provoking commentary

Good movies I’ve seen recently

Have you seen any good movies lately? Here are some I liked.

Millions
– A feel good movie that will put a smile on your face
Acclaimed director Danny Boyle posits a tantalizing question in this engaging film: What happens when two boys stumble upon a cache of cash? Damian and his brother Anthony find a satchel filled with British pounds, but with the country just days away from switching to the Euro, they must quickly find a way to spend and share the wealth. Trouble is, Damian wants to give to the poor, while Anthony aims to live it up.

Junebug
– You think your family is strange?
When Madeleine, a big-city art dealer from Chicago, makes a trip to North Carolina with her new husband, George, he finally allows her to meet his small-town Southern family — including his bristly mother, Peg, reticent father Eugene, crabby brother Johnny and immature sister-in-law Ashley. Looks like a family with more problems than meet the eye!

Grizzly Man
– A crazy guy with a good heart but forgot he is NOT a bear himself.
Renowned nonfiction director Werner Herzog chronicles the tragic and untimely death of outdoorsman Timothy Treadwell, who devoted his life to studying grizzly bears living in the Alaskan wilderness — only to have one of them maul him to death. Pieced together mainly from Treadwell’s own video footage, this fascinating documentary goes deep into the wilderness of one man’s mind to uncover how he spent his final days.

  1. I’m just starting to watch Oscar nominated movies. My favorite so far is “Good Night, and Good Luck”. All of the nominations are well deserved. It is a beautifully filmed movie, all in black and white. The close ups of David Straithairn against the stark black background are so compelling. There are minimal sets used, but that is so effectively done. I could go on, but suffice it to say, see it! Great acting by everyone.
